Leo Sommer
On the southeastern slopes of the Leithaberg, north of Lake Neusiedl, Leo Sommer leads work that breaks the local terroir down into precise detail. The vineyards are planted on mica schist, layers of fossil Leitha limestone, quartz and sandy loess, and benefit from the constant cooling effect of the range's forests and from wide day-night temperature swings. The winery's philosophy is clear-cut: every bottle in the core range is named for the exact soil that shaped it.
With James Suckling ranking Riesling Handwerk fourth on his list of the 100 best wines of Austria for 2025, and with praise from Wine Enthusiast, Sommer is cementing his position as one of the sharpest and most precise voices in Burgenland.
