Christoph Neumeister
Christoph Neumeister, the third generation of a winemaking family, took the reins in 2006 and was later named Falstaff's Winemaker of the Year. Under him the winery became a clear regional leader. Its thirty hectares spread across extreme slopes with gradients of up to 65%, at an elevation of close to 400 m. The terroir rests on soils of volcanic basalt, limestone, loess and Sarmatian gravel, exposed to a twofold climatic influence: sharp Alpine coolness against Adriatic and Pannonian warmth, which together produce a day-night temperature difference of more than 20°C – a perfect engine for taut acidity and complex aromatic development. The vineyards are farmed organically, with no chemical intervention, and harvested by hand into small 25 kg crates. In the cellar, all the white wines undergo a short skin maceration before fermentation. The result is wines with grip and texture, a tight phenolic structure, mineral depth and the capacity to age for many years.
